INTEGRATED HEALTH CARE FOR CANCER PATIENTS
Our goal is to eliminate or reduce your physical limitations and assist you to overcome any hurdles you may be experiencing as a result of your cancer treatment.
SUPPORTING YOUR RECOVERY DURING AND AFTER YOUR CANCER TREATMENT
Decades of experience
goes into your care
Oncology Recovery Services Inc. is a multidisciplinary centre that specialises in cancer care, lymphoedema management, and jaw disorders.
We have been supporting cancer patients for many years. During this time, we’ve observed and actively participated in making progress in the field. Due to the ever-increasing awareness, research and evidence, the disciplines of Physiotherapy, Massage Therapy, and Exercise Therapy have become more integrated into cancer care. We believe in applying all three of these therapies to your care to best reduce or eliminate cancer treatment symptoms and side effects.
Over the years, we have developed an in-depth understanding of the physical and emotional toll cancer can take. More importantly, we have learned how best to support your recovery and help improve your quality of life. We always aim to find the right balance between managing your symptoms and providing you with encouragement and guidance.
Our Philosophy
To deliver a multidisciplinary approach to your care in a supportive environment where you can improve both your physical and emotional well-being.
Our Role
To educate, encourage,
and support you across our services
and deliver the highest standard
of care tailored
to you.
Our Goal
Our goal is to align with your goal. Usually, this involves eliminating or reducing your physical limitations and assisting you to progress safely, so you can enjoy better health and do the things you love.
TAILORED CARE FOR EACH PATIENT
Our three-step process
Assessment
We begin your session with a thorough assessment that starts with listening to your story. We will ask questions about your medical history, work situation, hobbies, exercise regime and family situation to get a comprehensive picture. This helps us establish the right goals for you and implement the appropriate treatment steps. As part of your assessment, we may also liaise with your GP, surgeon, Oncologist or other specialists to ensure a complete medical history, which builds the foundation of the assessment. This will only happen with your consent. We sometimes use specific assessment tools or tests to investigate a specific issue. We will always explain the reason behind each tool we use and why.
Treatment
Once we clearly understand your situation, identify your limitations and establish your goals, we deliver your treatment plan, which may include one or more of our services: Physiotherapy, Massage Therapy, and Exercise Therapy. We encourage you to take an active role in your treatment. You will most likely be given self-management strategies to implement at home between your sessions with us to provide continuity and ensure a faster recovery. Should you need multiple services, we will closely collaborate with the other members of your treating team. We pride ourselves on having excellent communication between our team members so you can transition easily between therapists. Many patients see a physiotherapist first, then include massage therapy into their program as required and progress to exercise therapy. Sometimes we make recommendations to include external practitioners in your team, such as a personal trainer or an exercise physiologist, dietician, psychologist or acupuncturist. Over the years, we have established many valuable connections with health care providers in the field whose services complement ours and whose assistance you may find beneficial.
Maintenance
Some people will be required to manage the physical side effects of their cancer treatment on an ongoing basis. Together with you, we will create an ongoing management plan that suits you and your lifestyle. Teaching self-management techniques, developing individually tailored exercise programs, and providing a range of coping strategies, are all aspects of our maintenance service. Involving family, friends, or carers is often encouraged as part of the long-term management plan. We offer regular reviews to monitor your progress and modify your program accordingly to optimise treatment outcomes.
Our clinic runs regular community events and workshops to educate and empower you to be an active and informed part of your treatment.
