Lymphoedema Therapist

About the Position

All clinicians at ORSI are required to have lymphoedema qualifications.

As a lymphoedema therapist (physiotherapist or occupational therapist) your role will be to identify and manage a multitude of physical side effects of cancer treatment. You will be using standardised assessment tools and are required to document your findings clearly and efficiently. You will be confidently administering various manual techniques to manage musculoskeletal side effects of cancer treatment. An essential part of your role will be to provide education and advice on compression. In addition, you will be independently prescribing individualised exercise programs to our patients.

Working with the ORSI team

We provide a holistic workplace with a supportive team and opportunities to grow and learn through regular in-services and ‘meet and greet’ sessions with surgeons, oncologists and other health professionals in the field. You will have the opportunity to be mentored by leaders in the field and have the flexibility to work onsite as well as provide home visits for people in the community. You will be able to take part in or lead our community events including Friday Social and The Learning Hub.

As part of our tight-knit group you will also enjoy regular team lunches, social events and celebrations, which are never mandatory, but always well attended.

Qualifications and experience

  • AHPRA accredited
  • Relevant Visa or permanent residency in Australia
  • Lymphoedema qualifications
  • Professional Indemnity Insurance
  • 2+ years’ experience in private practice preferred
  • Up to date CPR and first aid certificates required
  • Australian driver’s license (if you wish to add home visits to your services)

Tasks and responsibilities

  • Devising detailed assessment, treatment and care plans for patients
  • Providing a prospective surveillance and early intervention model of care for all those at risk of lymphoedema
  • Provide individualised exercise programs
  • Competently delivering all aspects of oedema management, including education, assessment, diagnosis, the application of manual treatment techniques, providing compression advice, prescription, fitting and monitoring
  • Clear and timely treatment documentation
  • Planning short-and long-term treatment strategies in line with patients’ goals
  • Up to date with relevant guidelines, research outcomes and evidence based clinical practices
