About the Video

Primary lymphoedema is a result of a genetic malformation of the lymphatic system. This can lead to swelling of a particular body part. In this case the swelling occurred in the leg and was triggered by a long-haul flight. up to that point there was no sign of swelling and the young woman was unaware of her condition.

Diagnosis was made and ongoing treatment includes lymphatic massage, low level laser therapy and the daily use of compression stockings. Lymphoedema can be well managed with early diagnosis and prompt advice on individualised treatment.
