About the Event

Join us for the last Friday Social of the year as we get creative and expressive using found text. Blackout Poetry is a fun and interesting technique for discovering hidden poems by allowing yourself to be drawn to random words or phrases within a piece of text and blacking out the unwanted ones. It’s easy, spontaneous and anyone can do it. If you’re feeling really inspired, you can also add illustrations to compliment (or contradict!) your poem. The method has been used by writers and artists alike for many years to ease creator’s bloc. It’s a great way to relax, be in the moment and express yourself without having to try too hard! You might be surprised by the words that jump out at you based on how you’re feeling!

What to Bring:

Some supplies will be provided but feel free to bring your own text, sharpie markers, coloured pencils, pens etc. Text can be anything that you don’t mind drawing on such as an old newspaper or pages from an unused book. You might even like to print a page of text out.
