Friday Social: Sean-Nós Music & Dance Workshop | Cancer Care at ORSI

‘Sean-nós’ means ‘old-style’ in Irish and refers to a loose, casual form of dance. It pre-dates the well-known step-dance often associated with shows like Riverdance and is far more relaxed in nature making it suitable for a wide range of ages. The percussive nature and intermingling with the music means that it’s danced very neatly and close to the floor where your feet become the instruments.

Our instructor will be fellow Friday Socialite, Aisleen Evans. Aisleen comes from an Irish family and has enjoyed dancing and playing music all her life. She has danced at State and National level in both Australia and Canada but hung up her competitive shoes to explore the more relaxed world of set dancing and Sean-nós as part of the Sydney Harp Irish Set Dancers. A lover of music, she also plays the fiddle and has invited some of Sydney’s best Irish musicians to accompany us on the night.
